Vision Statement

Vision Statement

The Choral Society’s mission is to “enrich the cultural life of the area by providing singers … with an opportunity to perform in concert under skilled direction; to acquaint adults and young people with the best musical literature of the ages; and to encourage young composers …”  We have reinterpreted that mission to encompass the following new or expanded activities:

Children’s Chorus
Create a children’s chorus with professional direction which will perform at CSH concerts and/or other events
.

Chamber Chorus
Develop a chamber chorus of 12 to 14 adult singers to perform more frequently and in smaller venues with its own professional music director.

Musical Scholarships
CSH currently provides musical scholarships to two high school students each year. We hope to increase the size and number of these scholarships.

Music Education & Community Outreach
We are establishing an education component to provide voice and music training to adults to enable them to join the chorus, as well as to those choristers who wish to improve their skills.

Increase Use of Professional Musicians & Singers
CSH wishes to increase its use of paid professionals to enlarge its orchestra when appropriate and bring the very highest quality soloists and musicians to the East End.

Commissioning New Choral Works
Recently, CSH commissioned an original choral work by Daniel W. Koontz, winner of a MacArthur Fellowship, which received enthusiastic feedback. We would like to continue to play a role in the creation of new and original choral compositions on a regular basis.

Increase Community Access
CSH would like to make choral music more accessible to all members of the community by offering a certain number of free or reduced cost tickets to students and others for whom the full price represents a barrier to enjoying the choral arts.
