Dances, Carols, and Lullabies
Sunday, December 3rd, 2017
3:00PM & 5:30PM
Bridgehampton Presbyterian Church
Mark Mangini, Conductor
The holiday concert this year will showcase some familiar Christmas songs, others that are familiar but in unfamiliar arrangements, and still others that may be new to our audience. In keeping with the tradition of communal singing shared by many cultures, it will feature a medley of carols from the Hispanic world and a medley of traditional carols.
Holiday music of the Spanish-speaking world will be a major segment, in an arrangement of ten of the most beautiful traditional carols of the Spanish- and Catalan-speaking world accompanied by marimba, guitar, and harp. The Hispanic music is in an arrangement by Conrad Susa, an American composer known for choral works and operas.
The Spanish-speaking communities of Riverhead and the North and South Forks are cordially invited to join the audience.
Conducted by Mark Mangini, a noted choral conductor in the New York City area and the Society’s Music Director, the concert presents other works, some with participation by singers from Pierson High School in Sag Harbor and the audience, that draw on the familiar French and English repertoire — “Veni Veni Emmanuel,” “God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen,” “Silent Night” – and traditions of the Jewish world — “Kol Haneshamah” and “Al HaNissim.”
